Organic termite/fungi/plant protection Prevent Termite/fungi at New Construction Those who are building a stick built building and poison the ground before the slab is poured are wasting their money. I haven't seen a termite infestation in a slab built building occur before 7-8 years after the building was built in the Texas Hill Country, treated or untreated. A study by the Department of Entomology of Texas A & M University stated that of the termiticides available at the time the study was started (1988), permethrin and fenvalarate were the best with very little tunneling at the end of the four-year test. This residual period has not changed. I can provide a copy of this study. Why spend the $$ for something that will not be there when you need it. Even though the termiticide will not kill termites, it can seep through the slab to poison inhabitants. We spray a borate solution on the complete structure of a stick built building. When dried, it will soak into four two by sixes in ten weeks. This solution is unique of ESP, in that no one else has devised a method of dissolving the powdered borate into water that will penetrate as deep. We guarantee this treatment for five years against subterranean termite infestation. This guarantee covers re-treatment of infested areas only, no property damage. We use a bactericide/fungicide that will kill fungus/mold on contact. For those who wish, we can replace this "CHEMICAL" with a mixture of organic plant and microbial products called Bio+ that will provide the same result, at little more cost. The Borrado borate mineral is an insecticide/fungicide that will maintain a residual for as long as it is not exposed to continuous running water. We will provide this service in the State of Texas, where it is economically feasible. The below-ground landscapes of native habitats is teeming with thousands of organisms including mycorrhizal fungi that a necessary components of healthy, productive plants. Mycorrhizal fungi, like plants, are affected by soil conditions. Research indicates that many home construction/remodeling/landscaping practices can degrade the mycorrhizae-forming potential of soils. Removal of topsoil, erosion, site preparation, tillage, fertilization, road and building construction, compaction, fumigation invasion of non native plants and leaving soils bare are some of the activities that can reduce or eliminate these critically beneficial soil fungi. In many man-made landscapes we have reduced or eliminated the beneficial soil organisms necessary for plants to function without right levels of maintenance. It is therefore of paramount importance in these situations to reintroduce mycorrhizal fungi in these areas where they have been depleted and this can dramatically improve plant establishment and growth. Utilizing these practices assists the landscape professional or homeowner in getting high value plants established and maintaining plant health over time with the minimum of input and maintenance cost including water and fertilizers. These are the reasons ESP offers this product. We believe that healthy soil and plants will not sustain non beneficial insects. We have just found a mixture of beneficial microorganisms called EM•1® Microbial Inoculant. This mixture will make an environment foreign to insects, prior pesticide applications, and pathogenic fungus. There is no doubt that this will loosen compacted soil and add nutrients to improve the health of the plants. EM•1® Microbial Inoculant is formulated in the U S by a formula that was discovered in Japan over 20 years ago. EM•1® Microbial Inoculant is sold in over 100 countries. We will be offering a yard/tree spraying service with EM•1® Microbial Inoculant, combined with a Mycorrhizal Fungi mixture. These fungi when applied to the root system of a plant will increase the effective synergy of the roots from 10 to 10,000 times. The EM•1® Microbial Inoculant will loosen the soil that construction equipment has compacted over the roots of trees and native plants. Even riding lawnmowers being ridden over wet soil will compact the soil. This compaction kills the existing Mycorrhizae Fungi and microorganisms by not allowing the soil to breathe or absorb water and nutrients. We are seeing a recovery of construction damage and trees. This combination of organisms should be applied before and after the construction phase of a building. We are seeing damaged root systems begin recovered in as little as three to four weeks. We offer residential pest control service that will last year to year, with no contract. We use a borate/cedar oil spray. Or a borate/Bio+tm spray for the interior for spiders and silverfish, an attic dusting with diatomaceous earth for scorpions. We also put cedar sawdust around the outside perimeter of the house, to repel insects. The perimeter of the house and yard should be treated with the EM•1® Microbial Inoculant with mycorhizzal Fungi on the first spray, then EM•1® Microbial Inoculant spring, summer and fall to provide a continuous barrier for insects and fungi and plus food for the plants. Keep an eye on the Wimberley Valley News and Views for my monthly column. we will pass on information as we learn more. HEALTHY PLANTS WILL REPEL INSECTS, UNHEALTHY PLANTS ATTRACT INSECTS.
